florsheim kids
day3 (oct29 ‘07) of my short sembreak here in davao and i was finally going shoe shopping. as i’ve said in a previous blog entry (the hunt is on) i had ruined 8 pairs of shoes last sem and was in desperate need of new shoes. instead of buying in manila, my mom has been asking me to wait until i go home for the break. fine. that just means the budget will be more flexible.
a year or so ago, i discovered that my baby brother alec has around 3 pairs of florsheim shoes (at that time, now he has more). i mean i know my younger cousins have been wearing florsheim kids forever but to own more than one pair at a time?!
ma, why does alec have that many pairs when you never buy me florsheim? she explained to me that florsheim for kids are relatively cheap and if i can find florsheim shoes for me that cheap, she’ll gladly buy me three too.
anyway, since i didn’t really have a big budget for this shopping trip, we decided to hit the department store. more brands and much easier to compare styles and prices. lola initially wanted to join us but after a few minutes of watching me look for shoes, she changed her mind and asked to be brought home instead. (maybe she got scared she’ll be footing the bill when i inevitably exceed the budget)
it didnt take too long before i knew it i had placed 3 pairs (red heels, gold printed sling backs, multi colored leather sandals - all three pairs on sale) in the cart (yes, we have a cart for shoe shopping) for myself and mama has chosen 2 for herself.
i still needed "school shoes". a closed toe pair (preferrably heeled) that i can wear with jeans and more formal stuff for finicky professors.
just as i started to look around for my school shoes, mama reminded me that i still needed a pair of rubbers… hmmmm, ma, if we buy rubber shoes we’ll definitely go over budget. rubber shoes are expensive. just go look.
so i got myself a new pair of rubber shoes. it doesn’t look anything out of the ordinary. actually it looks downright plain but oh well at least it will go with almost everything. (the following day i realized when i saw a similar pair on the men’s shoe section that the pair i had gotten was fila marathon. one of the lightest rubber shoes ever made. not that i’ll be running in any marathons)
back to the search for school shoes. the pair i saw came in three colors (light brown almost camel, dark brown sort of like chocolate and black). I was looking for a black pair initially however the design i liked just looked better in another color so there.
i thought we were done, as i had already gone over budget (but i had 5 new pairs!). amazingly, mama wanted to go over the kids shoe section for alec.
florsheim kids was on sale. she had chosen 2 pairs fo alec and was waiting for them when i noticed the sandals. some of them were really big. ma, look at these! they’re big! well, there are a lot of big kids. look this pair is too big even for me! you’re right it even fits me. hmmm… i wonder if they have bigger sizes of the other styles too.
one of the attendants seem to have caught on my train of thought and brought back the biggest sizes available of the prettier/daintier designs.
i am now the proud owner of my very first pair of florsheim sandals. florsheim kids. size 34. ang fun!
note: according to the sales person, they usually have florsheim kids until size five, sometimes even bigger (the one we tried on and eventually bought for lola was a size 6). looks like i’ll be wearing more florsheim in the future.
we went home with 11 pairs. 6 for me, 2 for mama, 2 for alec and one for lola.
